Established in 1884, the Mill Iron, spanning 30,000 acres, is located in the Texas Panhandle near Wellington.  Positioned on the Salt Fork of the Red River, the ranches' topography is an anomaly among the High Plains, ranging from grassy rolling hills to steep canyons.

Founded by Colonel Hughes, the Mill Iron at one time stretched over 300,000 acres.   Since that time, the Mill Iron has been operated by the Hughes Family until 2003 when it was acquired by the Allred Family.   To this day the Mill Iron is still operated commercially as a cow-calf operation.
